Unknown Antartcica wins Lodz International Film Festival

(TASR-SLOVAKIA) - Slovak director Pavol Barnabas's documentary 'Unknown Antarctica' won the best film award at the Artshow International Film Festival in Lodz in Poland. The festival jury, which chose from 52 movies from around the world, awarded Barnabas the first prize for the visual impact of the film and for the director's sensitive depiction of natural beauty.

The second prize went to French film 'Amazonia Vertigo' (director Evrard Wendenbaum), while third was Austrian film 'Crossing The Lines' (directors Armin Buchroithner, Christoph Hoerner and Stefan Ribitsch). Unknown Antartica was released in October as the first Slovak film on blue-ray disc and as a DVD in the Grand Prix collection. Apart from winning first prize at the Polish Artshow festival, the documentary has received other awards such as the Grand Prix at the Teplice nad Metuji festival in the Czech republic, first prize at Camera Slovakia, and the festival manager's award at the Envirofilm 2008 festival in Slovakia.
